About Natural Stones

All Natural Stone is a creation of nature which took many centuries to create. As a natural product, every slab has its own unique identity which cannot be duplicated. This adds to the beauty of using natural stones for your project. As with any natural product, there are variations in the quality of materials. Similar to diamonds found in nature, natural stones are graded and priced according to their uniqueness, quality, coloring, availability, movement, and several other factors.

Natural stone is the most popular choice for most applications due to its durability and uniqueness. Although natural stone is considered hard (for example granite is almost as hard as diamonds), it is still porous to some varying degree. The type of stone selected will reflect the porous levels. As with any natural stone, it is highly recommended that you seal the stone using an accepted method of sealing. By sealing the stone, you are protecting your investment. Sealing is a simple process of spray on and wipe off. The sealant acts much like wax on your vehicle. A freshly waxed vehicle beads water. A vehicle that has not been waxed for years does not. Natural stone acts very similarly. Once sealed properly, natural stone will repel liquids including those with high acidic levels such as coffee, orange juice, and wine long enough to react and clean the spill without soaking through the stone and creating a stain. It is recommended that you seal your natural stone at least once a year and more often when new.

Maintaining the beauty of natural stone is a simple process. However, it does require some special care. It is recommended that you use a Ph-Balanced cleaner that is formulated for natural stone. The composition of natural stone includes many minerals that could be sensitive to regular household cleaners. Household cleaners also could contain alkaline or acids that could remove the sealant or even worse etch or scratch your natural stone permanently.
